When sending an email inquiry or using a telephone inquiry, please take
some time to share your family situation, homelife, geographical location,
other critters in the home and just some general information about what
a potential Minikids Kennel puppy might expect to find there. Since we
do not have many dogs and do not breed frequently, we are in a position
to be selective as to where and to whom our dogs go. It is important to
us that each of our pups finds a home and family of quality.
Shipping
A deposit (1/2 the purchase price) will hold a dog until it is ready to go or
is ready to be shipped. Coming here to pick up your new pup is of course best
for the puppy. However, if this cannot be arranged, we provide shipping by airlines
at a cost of $310.00 plus an airline approved shipping crate and the cost of
a health certificate from the vet, (usually $100.00 ). Those figures includes
a vet check up, rabies shot if required, state health certificate needed for
animals crossing state lines, new shipping kennel, trip to Indianapolis, Indiana
(200 mile round trip for us) and the airplane. We will not ship a young pup
until it is at least 10-12 weeks of age, depending on each individual puppy.
History
The original Dachshund was developed in Germany for hunting badgers and
having a long body, a usually short-haired brown, red and white, black
and brown coat, drooping ears, and very short legs.
[German: Dachs, badger (from Middle High German dahs, from Old High German)
+ Hund, dog (from Middle High German hunt, from Old High German).]
The name Dachshund at once reveals and conceals the origin of the breed.
In medieval European books on hunting, dogs similar only in possessing
the tracking ability of hounds and the proportions and temperament of
terriers, because they were used to follow badgers to earth, were called
badger-dogs or dachshunds. Importation of Dachshunds into the United States
antedates the earliest American dog shows or stud books, and eleven were
included in AKC Stud Book, Volume II in 1885.
